“It’s nice to be a part of such a supportive team”
Myrthe Potoms has been a Junior Auditor at Grant Thornton since September 2023. While she dedicates a lot of energy to her hobby as a gymnast, she also finds fulfilment off the mat: in a close-knit team, a steep learning curve, and growth opportunities that help her flip to new heights.

Who is Myrthe Potoms?
- Position:
Junior Auditorenergetic gymnast - Age: 23
- Office: Vilvoorde
- Energy source: successfully completing a challenging audit
- Hobbies: gymnastics and meeting up with friends
How did you end up at Grant Thornton?
Myrthe: “I first got introduced to Grant Thornton at university, where I was taught by Gunther Loits – he’s a partner in audit here. While I was looking for a job after graduation, HR Officer Charlotte reached out to me on LinkedIn, and things moved forward from there. During the interview process, everything felt right from the start. Everyone was so kind and welcoming! I felt completely at ease, as if I had known everyone there for years already. That really sealed the deal for me.”
What were your first weeks like at Grant Thornton?
Myrthe: “They were definitely busy, but in a good way. The first day was a ‘Starters’ Day’, which included various speakers, a welcome reception, and even a speed-dating session to get to know your colleagues. During those first weeks, we also had a mix of training days and regular workdays at the office, so we could immediately put our knowledge into practice, and even come along on client visits.”
How would you describe your daily work life?
Myrthe: “The work never feels repetitive, because we have such a diverse range of clients across various sectors. Even though we always use the same forms, every client and audit is slightly different – you always learn something new.”
“Our team has a lot of juniors, and we all ask many questions, but everyone is so approachable and willing to help – and it all just feels very natural. It’s nice to be a part of such a supportive, respectful and close-knit team.”
What growth opportunities does Grant Thornton provide?
Myrthe: “In terms of audit itself, we’re constantly learning – from each other, from senior auditors, or through hands-on experience. Now that the clients from my first year at Grant Thornton are returning, I’m already able to take on more challenging tasks and to see the progress I’ve made.”
“Apart from our regular training days, all juniors are part of the Rocket Academy. In each session, we focus on a specific topic in small groups: setting goals, giving feedback, managing stress, etcetera. It’s a great way to develop personally and professionally alongside our daily work. Honestly, I think I’ve learned more during my first weeks at Grant Thornton than in five years at university.”
Why would you recommend joining Grant Thornton?
Myrthe: “At Grant Thornton, you really feel like a part of the team from the start. There are so many fun activities, and everyone truly knows each other – it’s such a welcoming and supportive atmosphere. My tip for applicants: don’t stress too much! I was quite nervous at first, but that feeling disappeared quickly, because everyone was so incredibly friendly. Just be yourself and be honest – and then you’ll be just fine!”
