Koert Verbruggen new CEO of Grant Thornton Belgium

Antwerp - Grant Thornton has appointed Koert Verbruggen as its new CEO. Koert succeeds Paul De Weerdt as of 1 November 2018.

Grant Thornton Belgium has therefore chosen a notable CEO who made his mark in the banking world. Over the years, Koert Verbruggen has guided various financial institutions through an in-depth transformation. As from 2016 he advised a number of companies on their strategic planning and oversaw their change path, until he was asked to join Grant Thornton.

“Our sector is going through a major upheaval and is changing rapidly,” says Paul De Weerdt. “We are convinced that new insights and a different focus will help us respond even more dynamically to the market’s changing expectations of our profession and prepare our business for a thriving future.” Paul De Weerdt himself is to take on the mandate of chairman of Grant Thornton Belgium.

Main challenge

Koert Verbruggen now faces the challenge of ensuring that the Belgian representative of Grant Thornton International evolves further to become a full-service adviser to which every client – business leader, SME, multinational or government institution – can turn for personalised and pragmatic advice. And this at fees that are greatly appreciated by our clients owing to the significant added value we provide.

How does he plan to tackle this challenge?

“Our business is a 100% people business,” Koert Verbruggen declares. “Team spirit, diversity and close cooperation will be central in our approach. Experienced staff will be pleased to share their knowledge with the younger people and everyone will be able to develop their potential at their own pace.”

Setting out his goals in more detail, he adds: “We want to guarantee everyone the best possible work-life balance. By doing so, we aim to assume our social responsibility in a practical manner, our objective being not to experience any burn-out or bore-out in our company. Such a corporate culture is the best guarantee to offer our clients personalised solutions that give them peace of mind and fewer cares as well as offering them the option to grow faster.”

Paul De Weerdt is passing on his role in total confidence: “We are very pleased that Koert is taking on this challenge and will help Grant Thornton to define and give shape to an appropriate vision and a global strategy. A task that, as an expert in strategic and change management, he will undoubtedly fulfil brilliantly.”
